He looked like any other man. He was obviously Hebrew. He lived in a land of Hebrews. He was devoted to God. He lived in a land of people devoted to God. Still, He was different. This man, so humble and caring, made the worlds. He formed Adam from the dust of the earth. This man was King of the world, King of Israel; He was the King of Life.
One day, while dealing with the religious establishment and sstill trying to teach His students, He said, "The thief cometh not, but for to steal and to kill and to destroy. I am come that they may have life and may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10 emphasis mine)
This is such a wonderful promise. It is a promise we so often refuse to accept. Too often we prefer to suffer for Him, but not to live in Him.
Rather than bringing us life by assuming a mighty throne to which He would have been entitled. He brought us life and taught us to have it more abundantly by dying.
Choosing to become a sacrifice on a cruel cross (which followed two days of suffering from His agony in the garden to the scourging and the crown of thorns), Jesus, the King of Life died.
Jesus did not stay dead. He rose on the third day. Today he lives to interceed for us to the Father. God praying to God on our behalf!
